The OXE Diesel engine reduces fuel consumption by over 42% compared to a modern gasoline outboard of equivalent horsepower, setting new standards for internal combustion engines within the global outboard engine industry.
By using highly refined automotive-based engine technology, the OXE Diesel is leading in the marine industry with the lowest fuel consumption levels, as well as the lowest emission levels on the market in an outboard combustion engine, while still maintaining range. The result is a minimized impact on the environment, significantly reducing
not only CO2 but also CO, HC, and NOx emissions.
Throughout the development process of the OXE Diesel, the goal was to generate and implement technologies and strategies to provide engines that meet and exceed the most stringent marine standards in exhaust, noise and vibration emissions.
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the EU are at the forefront of establishing the most stringent standards in effect today. Exhaust performance and testing requirements place the responsibility on the manufacturer to design and establish the most advanced engine control technologies available.
The OXE Diesel engine series is compliant with the emission regulations established by the US EPA, the EU, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and, for the OXE175 and OXE200 models, the Engine International Air Pollution Prevention (EIAPP). The OXE Diesel engine series is also certified in accordance with IMO Tier II, EPA Tier III and RCD.
The reduced fuel consumption is a key factor to why the OXE Diesel engine emits significantly lower CO2 than a gasoline outboard engine. One liter of diesel produces approximately 2.69kg CO2 and one liter of gasoline produces 2.36kg CO2 when ignited. Since the OXE Diesel consumes over 42% less fuel than comparable gasoline alternatives, the OXE Diesel reduces the CO2 emissions by over 35.5%.
Just as with CO2, the reduced fuel consumption is a key factor to why the OXE Diesel engine emits significantly lower CO when comparing the OXE Diesel to pleasure craft gasoline outboards. The much stricter directives that exist in the automotive industry, such as for example the EPA Tier III regulations, have directly benefitted the OXE Diesel engine since its powerhead is derived from the automotive industry. In accordance with EPA Tier III, one litre of diesel should only emit 8.36g while the non-regulated gasoline engines can emit up to 620g/l.
Lower fuel consumption means that the OXE Diesel engine emits significantly lower HC and NOx than gasoline outboard engines. One liter of diesel produces approximately 17.8g of HC+NOx when ignited, compared to 33.4g of HC+NOx for one liter of gasoline.
Since the OXE Diesel consumes up to 42% less fuel than comparable gasoline alternatives, the OXE Diesel reduces the HC+NOx emissions by up to 69.8%.
OXE Marine is driven by the ambition to transform the outboard motor; impacting the journey towards a more sustainable and ecologically positive marine environment. Biofuels help to reduce the impact on global warming by reducing net carbon emissions to the atmosphere. Unlike traditional diesel, Biodiesel is renewable and biodegradable. A joint study conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the U.S. Department of Energy determined that biodiesel reduces net carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere by 78.5% compared with petroleum diesel fuel.
Using Biodiesel further reduces environmental impact by lowering net carbon footprint by up to 90%. On top of the significantly reduced emissions, OXE Marine products already offer, OXE Diesels, fueled with biofuels (HVO100 and B7) fuels results in a reduced net carbon dioxide by up to 94,2% or up to 257 082Kg/1000hrs of operation when comparing an OXE200 to a 200 hp gasoline outboard.
Besides being a more sustainable fuel option, biofuels are safer to handle than petroleum fuel due to their low volatility. With a flashpoint well above the boiling point of water, Biodiesel is significantly safer to store, handle and transport.
